They will join the Klaus Voormann Limited Edition Revolver Guitar already on display within the main exhibition and will be available for visitors to view on a permanent basis.
Paul Mc Cartney purchased his first bass, a Höfner 500/1 model, from Steinway’s Musikhaus in Hamburg in 1961.
Paul played the bass on all of the early Beatles hits and shows until he retired it late in 1963 when he received another Höfner Violin Bass.
It was kept as a back-up bass and last used in 1968 during the Let It Be sessions when it was stolen and sadly, it has never been seen again.
Paul Mc Cartney and his little Höfner bass are known together throughout the world, he plays that same bass he received in 1963 at every show!
It is therefore fitting for the H500/1-62 bass to be shown in The Beatles Story’s exhibit dedicated to Abbey Road Studios, since it was here that Paul used it to record some of the greatest songs ever produced.
